The Township of Madawaska Valley is a thriving community in the Ottawa Valley, just two hours from Ottawa and less than an hour to Algonquin Provincial Park. Home to 4,000 and a substantial seasonal population, our residents enjoy countless recreational opportunities on our many lakes, trails, and backroads, as well as excellent healthcare services and local schools, shopping and restaurants in our three population centres, and numerous events and festivals throughout the year. The Township employs 30 full time and 15 part time employees across multiple departments and locations spanning through Wilno, Barry’s Bay, and Combermere.

The Township of Madawaska Valley is presently accepting applications for a Crossing Guard Rover. A 
Crossing Guard Rover ensures the safety of students and pedestrians by directing traffic and guiding 
children across busy streets. 

A Crossing Guard Rover must be available on an on-call basis who can work on short notice. The Crossing Guard Rover directs and assists students crossing the road at an assigned location for one hour in the morning and one hour in the mid afternoon. The successful candidate will be able to work in all weather conditions, record and report incidents to supervisors, and communicate with children on road safety awareness.

Rate of pay: Group 1 - $25.00 hourly plus 4% vacation pay.

The Madawaska Valley Fire Department is actively recruiting new Volunteer Firefighters for both the North Hall (Barry’s Bay) and South Hall (Combermere).

Volunteer Firefighters engage in fire suppression, prevention, and education activities. Candidates must be able to obtain a clean driver’s abstract and vulnerable sector check, as well as become trained to the 1002 National Fire Protection Agency Standard Level One. All training is paid for by the Township of Madawaska Valley, and Volunteer Firefighters are paid annually based on the number of training sessions and calls they respond to.
